After running a highly successful podiatry practice for many years and encountering everyday common foot problems, it became clear that high street formulas could not meet many of their patients' requirements. Debra Hughan teamed up with Sheila Leonard, a well-established Aromatherapist and formulated a range of natural alternative products.
Within a short period, patients were achieving improved results through use of these completely natural formulas. With growing demand it was decided to make these products available through selective practices and spas, allowing the benefits of their knowledge and treatments to become more widely available.
Debra Hughan
I trained at the Chelsea School of Chiropody in 1980 and in the following eight years worked both for the NHS and privately. I treated a wide variety of patients including diabetics and rheumatoid patients at the Charing Cross Hospital.
I then moved to Macclesfield, Cheshire where I established a multi-disciplinary practice, The Footcare Clinic, which specialises in all aspects of footcare. The practice uses state of the art equipment for gait analysis, verrucae treatments, including laser therapy and cryo therapy and provides nail surgery. Sheila Leonard (aromatherapist) and I began discussions about commonly occuring foot problems which, as a podiatrist with over 20 years experience, I was struggling to treat successfully. Relentless work and belief in our product has led to the Footessentials range now being used successfully by many podiatrists across the country.
Sheila Leonard
In the year 2000 I attended Central Manchester College of Beauty and Holistic Therapies. Here I studied aromotherapy, refelxology, stress massage, lymphatic drainage massage (especially helpful to women who have had lymph nodes removed as part of cancer treatment), indian head massage and diet & nutrition. I attained an Anatomy and Physiology Diploma and then chose to take the International Therapies Education Council examinations as they covered each subject in more depth. I graduated with distinction, and proceeded with my career as a holistic therapist.
In 2003 I began working with Debra Hughan (podiatrist) at the The Footcare Clinic based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. I blended Oils for common conditions of the feet. This first blend for chilblains was an enormous success and paved the way for the development of the unique Footessentials product range. The success we have had in the Footcare Clinic is being mirrored in podiatry practices throughout the country.
