An insight on fungal skin infections

April 28, 2009

There are various kinds of fungal skin infections, and unfortunately most fungal skin infections cannot be cured easily.

The development of the fungus is usually very quick. When the symptoms disappear, you may think that the fungi have vanished from your skin, but they may reappear after a few days.

In most cases, a doctor is able to detect a fungal skin infection. Normally, the symptoms are dry, scaly, and red itchy skin. A fungal skin infection can either be in a particular part of the body or in very specific areas.

People who are on antibiotics and steroids have a high risk of getting a fungal skin infection due to their natural resistance becoming diminished. Besides eliminating the infection, the medication also reduce the helpful bacteria on our body. When the helpful bacteria are reduced, fungi take the opportunity to colonise the affected area.

Therefore, it is important for you to keep your skin fresh and dry at all times. This is because moisture can attract bacteria and fungi.
