Athletes foot – care and cure

October 15, 2008

Athlete’s foot is a fungal skin infection that usually affects the area between the toes. It can also spread to the nails. Fungal skin infections are usually a lot harder to treat than bacterial skin infections, as bacteria may advance and make the situation even worse than it already is. This is why one must take utmost care if they contract fungal skin infections.

Symptoms of athlete’s foot include itching, burning, stinging, and possibly a little bleeding, cracked skin or development of blisters on the skin. The nails also become yellow or brown in colour, become thicker and give off a bad odour.

There are many kinds of athlete’s foot treatments available. There are a variety of creams, ointments, sprays and other solutions that can heal this fungal skin infection, but proper care is also needed. One must make sure to wash the infected area with warm water and soap and remember to always keep the feet dry. Also clean socks and footwear must be used. Letting the feet out of footwear at regular intervals or wearing open toed footwear will also help.

Another great way to treat athlete’s foot is to use natural applications, as they work well and do not cause any sort of side effect.
