AVOCADO OIL

Avocado oil is an excellent emollient for the skin.  It contains Vitamins A, various B vitamins including B1 and 2, Vit E, VIT D  as well as beta carotene, potassium and lethicin.  It has many qualities which will aid in the treatment of dry skin.

BORAGE OIL

There is ample evidence from research on both humans and animals showing that borage oil has a significant effect on improving the health and appearance of skin tissue. Clinically, borage oil has been shown to be a very effective agent for treating skin disorders and for alleviating the inflammatory symptoms associated with these disorders. For everyday use, borage oil has been shown to be very effective in treating the redness, inflammation, and moisture loss associated with dry skin.

Whether you take borage oil orally or apply it to your skin, it appears to positively affect the texture, suppleness and moisture content of skin.

COCONUT OIL

The small molecular structure of coconut oil allows for easy absorption through the skin giving it a soft, smooth testure.  It makes an ideal addition to an ointment for the relief of dry, rough skin.  Psoriasis and Eczema sufferers often see great improvement in these distressing conditions.

Coconut oil will not only bring temporary relief to the skin, but it will aid in healing and repairing.  It will have lasting benefits, unlike most lotions.  It can help bring back a youthful appearance.  The coconut oil will aid in removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother. The skin will become more evenly textured with a healthy “shine”.  While doing this the coconut oil will penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and strengthen the underlying tissues.

SAFFLOWER OIL

These are the oils contained in ‘Soothe that Skin’ base cream.  All of these oils will aid in  healing and preventing moisture loss from the skin.  Sore dry and irritated skin needsto be soothed.

LAVENDER OIL

The Health benefits of Lanvender Oil for the skin can be attributed to its antiseptic and antifungal properties.  It is used to treat various skin disorders.  It heals cuts, burns and sunburn rapidly as it aids in the formation of scar tissue.

VERRUCAE TREATMENTS

January 28, 2011

Verrucae can be very painful and very persistent.

Verrucae is the common name used for a wart on the foot.  Sometimes they resolve on their own but sometimes people can suffer from them for years.

A Verrucae can appear as a single lesion or they can be grouped together.  They can have small black bleeding points but this is not always the case.  Some can appear swollen depending on where they are on the foot and how much pressure there is.

Some verrucae treatments are very painful and don’t always work.  Essential oils have anti viral, antibacterial and analgesic properties.  When they are blended together they can be an invaluable treatment for verrucae.

NATURAL TREATMENT FOR ECZEMA AND PSORIASIS

January 23, 2011

A recent study has found that the use of Parabens and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate on the skin is to be avoided. When healthy volunteers applied acqueous cream containg S.L.S. to their forearms daily for a period of four weeks the thickness of the stratum corneum was reduced by more than 10%.  The researchers anticipate that using this cream would have an even more dramatic effect on damaged skin such as that found in eczema.

Professor Richard Guy, professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Bath University said: “The skin has a protective barrier layer of lipids, around one eighth the thickness of a piece of paper which stops chemicals from getting into the body and keeps moisture in.  S.L.S. is a detergent used to mix oils into water-based moisturisation creams to give a nice creamy texture.  It is also used widely in shower gels and other cosmetics.

Our study has found that rubbing acqueous cream containing S.L.S. into the skin thins this protective barrier making the skin more susceptible to irritation by chemicals.  So to use this cream on eczemous skin which is already thin and vulnerable to irritation is likely to make the condition even worse.”

Essential oils have wonderful therapeutic properties and are very beneficial in the treatment of Eczema and Psoriasis.  They are anti-bacterial, antiseptic, analgesic, and many are skin cell regenerating.

The answer is to find a cream which does not contain S.L.S. or Parabens and does contain a combination of essential oils indicated in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis and other dermal skin problems.

Athletes Foot Infection

October 3, 2010

Athletes foot infection is a common infection of the skin characterised by itching, scaling, redness and he formation of small blisters.  In general the lesions start between the toes and can extend to the borders and bottom of the foot.  The fungus has the potential to spread to the toenails, causing them to become thickened, discoloured and painful.  In this case the infection is called onychomycosis.

The feet are vulnerable to this infection because shoes commonly create a warm, dark and humid environment that encourages fungal growth.  Athlete’s foot can also be contracted in dressing rooms, hotel and locker room showers and swimming pool locker rooms where bare feet may come in contact with the fungus.

Try to keep shoes and socks dry as a preventative measure. Practice good foot hygiene, including daily washing of the feet with soap and water; drying the feet carefully, especially between the toes.  Change shoes regularly and wear cotton socks.

What is fungal nail infection

August 25, 2010

Its not just a cosmetic problem.  Its an infection of the bed and plate underlying the surface of a nail.  Fungal nail infection, a condition called onychomycosis is caused primarily by organisms called dermatophytes.  Its extraordinarily common, afflicting more than 35 million people in the United States alone.  However, some 90% of them have yet to see a podiatrist for treatment.

0nce these tiny organisms find their way under a nail, they begin to multiply.  Ironically, when the fungas finds its way under the nail, the nail itself provides a protective environment for the fungas to thrive.  The toenails are most vulnerable to infection since they spend much of their day surrounded by dark, warm, and often moist shoes and socks.

When fungal nail infection begins to take hold, it can cause the nail to change colour, often to a yellow/green or darker colour.  Debris may collect under that nail, causing a foul smell.  The nail may thicken and become flaky.  Thick toenails, in particular may cause discomfort in shoes and may even make standing and walking uncomfortable for some people.

It is important to seek treatment as soon as you think you have an infection.  Nourish that Nail is a totally natural and extremely affective treatment for this type of infection.

Summer Feet

May 7, 2010

Its that time of the year again when we want to wear sandals and mules and have to address the fact that our feet have been muffled away in socks and boots for the last six months.  We may have developed dry flaky skin and even worse, athletes foot.  Many people visiting podiatry clinics at this time of year need to have a full treatment which includes the removal of all hard skin and callouses and nail cutting.  Used regularly Essential oil blends can ensure that our feet remain moisturised and infection free.

Athletes foot infectionis very uncomfortable and can be very painful,  It is also unsightly.  Ditch that Itch from Footessentials very quickly reduces redness, flakiness, itchiness and soothes infected skin.  It needs to be applied twice per day and your feet will recover and love you for it!

Fungal nail infection can be hidden away all winter but when the sun starts to shine in the spring the last thing any of us want is to bear discoloured thickened toenails.  Nourish that Nail is an oil blend which is antifungal, antibacterial and antiseptic.  Used twice or three times per day it will help to eradicate the infection which causes this unsightly condition.  Feet need air in order for the skin and nails to breathe and for bacteria not to gain a hold.  Spring and  Summer are ideal times for us to give our feet a big treat and pamper them to say thank you for all the hard work they do for us.
