Keep away from fungal infections
January 7, 2009
The feet are prone to fungal infections as they provide the right kind of environment for the fungus to grow and spread. Infection of the skin is popularly known as Athlete’s foot and infection of the toenails is known as the onychomycosis. These are the two most common infections a foot could contract.
The fact that fungus multiplies rapidly and makes the infection severe is a serious concern for identifying the infection during its first stage. This could help in curing the infection early and with a minimal dose of medicine.
Fungal infections leave the skin of the feet red and swollen. The severe itching could also take its toll on the infected area. Similarly the fungal infection of the toe-nails causes discolouration, thickening and pain.
To keep away from fungal infections you need to pay strict attention to your feet. Simple things like wearing clean and washed socks could keep the fungi that grow in damp environments away.
Similarly trimming the toenails could avoid the accumulation of dirt and soil. In case of an injury make sure that the wound is cleaned and attended to, else the fungi is bound to spread and multiply.
There are various medical treatments available to cure fungal infections of the foot. However, it is always advisable to go to the right doctor for the right prescription at the right time. After all it is the delay that allows the fungus to spread and breed.
