Skin infections are common occurrences due to the large number of viruses and bacteria that you come in contact with on a daily basis. One of the most common skin infections are warts, which can be defined as uneven lumps on your skin. The most common places in which warts occur are the hands and legs.
Warts that occur on the feet, especially on the sole can be very painful. These warts are known as verruca warts. Verruca warts are easily spread, mainly because the virus that causes them is caught by contact. Therefore directly touching a place that has been touched by an infected person could put you at risk of infection yourself.
Though verruca warts can affect anyone, they are more common amongst children. The low immunity in children against warts makes them very vulnerable to the infection. Verruca warts disappear over a period of time, but due to the pain that one faces it is better to get them treated as early as possible.
There are a number of ways in which verruca warts can be treated. One of the most common treatments is the use of cryotherapy, which involves the freezing of the warts. Freezing your verruca warts kills the virus and hence gets rid of the warts. Though effective, this treatment is very painful and hence may not be the best option.
Verruca warts can also be treatment with the help of herbal oils. The use of herbal oils not only gives your feet a soothing effect it can also clear your warts in a painless effective manner.

Chilblains are a common problem that is often confused with frostbite. This problem normally occurs in cold or damp weather, when the skin reacts to a sudden change in body temperature. This reaction of the skin is very abnormal, which gives rise to painful swelling of the affected area.
Chilblains most commonly occur on the fingers, toes, nose and ears. Itching and burning sensations occur in these locations, the occurrence of swelling is the most common symptom of chilblains.
When the body is subject to a sudden change in temperature, there is not enough time for the blood vessels to react to this change. This causes the leakage of blood into the skin, which is the main cause of chilblains. Restriction of blood circulation at pressure points can also cause chilblains.
Though there are a variety of treatments for chilblains, the best thing you can do is try to avoid this from happening in the first instance by keeping your body warm during cold weather. Avoiding subjecting your body to direct heat after you come in from the cold can also help as this may also cause chilblains.
Using herbal oils to treat chilblains or keep them at bay is another option that you can choose. These oils are not difficult to find online and so you should not have any difficulty finding an appropriate treatment.

Fungus infected toenails is not an uncommon occurrence for people to have, this is because this infection thrives in dark and wet places. This is why people who wear shoes and socks for long periods may find themselves facing this problem with their feet. A common type of fungal infection of the nail is Onychomycosis. This condition affects fingernails and toenails but the latter is more common and should be attended to as soon as possible.
Symptoms of Onychomycosis
• The most noticeable symptom is the nail plate developing a thick cloudy or yellow appearance.
• Nails infected with this condition may also become crumbly and rough or may even become detached from the nail bed.
Onychomycosis is mostly caused by a type of fungi called dermatophytes. There are various types of dermatophytes responsible for this condition but the most common is Trichophyton rubrum.
Although Onychomycosis does not cause pain to people that develop the condition, it is severe and has to be treated quickly and with care. The most popular treatment for Onychomycosis is antifungal treatments like medication and creams. These antifungal treatments are very effective and though improvements cannot be seen from the first day, with time they eventually get better.
Once you have treated Onychomycosis, it is important to prevent it from happening again. This can be done by keeping the feet dry and clean, by not sharing socks and shoes and not going barefoot in public places like communal changing rooms and showers.

Outdoor sports or other pastimes like dancing are a great way to stay fit. These are things that people enjoy doing and which at the same time can also help maintain health. However, should a person contract a skin infection like verruca warts, it could stop these extra-curricular activities completely.
What are verruca warts?
Verruca warts are caused by viral infection and can be seen on the feet and hands. This type of warts is mostly seen on the balls of the feet. Although in appearance it is very much like a regular wart, it can be even more serious. This is because a person’s body weight falls completely on the wart and this could make it more painful and sore.
What do they look like?
Verruca warts have a soft centre but look like they are flat and have a thick skin along with a hard edge. If they are looked at closely, small black spots are visible on the verruca. The spots are a result of bleeding in the warts due to standing or walking on them.
These can be contagious and can spread viruses if they break on hard floors like swimming pool or bathroom floors.
Verruca wart treatment
There are oils, medicines and ointments that make very effective verruca wart treatments. Individuals should wear sandals or shower socks in showers and refrain from swapping shoes to prevent the spread of this infection.

“Onychomycosis” is the medical name for toenail fungus. In spite of the usual term, ‘fungal toenails’, onychomycosis portrays fungus as well as yeast infections in the nail. Men are twice as prone to toenail fungus, when compared to women. Nail fungus, or onychomycosis, is an infection of the nails occurring both on the hands and feet. Onychomycosis can attack the elderly quickly and easily. The chances of contracting this disease are very scarce in children and young people, but once the person reaches his thirties, the chance of the fungus infection escalates.
A survey proves that one in every four adults have had some nail fungus before the age of 40. For the elderly, the statistics are even higher.

Over the years, there has been a significant increase in the number of fungal infections through the United Kingdom. The most common of these infections has been nail fungus on the fingers and toes, which causes discomfort and cosmetic problems.
Microorganisms like molds, yeast and fungi are the main causes of nail fungus infections. These microorganisms thrive in a moist and warm environment, such on the feet. Most times, because of the reoccurrence of these organisms, the nail fungus infection is considered incurable.
The symptoms of nail fungus are:
• The nail colour changes, ranging from yellow, brown or greenish to natural discolouration
• Discomfort is caused under the nails and surrounding area, and most times is accompanied with a painful sensation
• Pit marks seen in one or several nails
• The nails suddenly start thickening or flaking
• The shape of the nails undergo natural, unexpected changes
• Development of debris under the nail
• Falling or separation of the nail from the nail bed
• A foul odour may emit from the nail
Many treatments are available that can successfully treat nail fungus infections. These antifungal treatments need time and, contrary to popular belief, cannot miraculously cure the infection overnight. As the antifungal treatment needs to penetrate through the hard nail, it may take time for the results to be visible.
Additionally, fungal nail treatments are available in the market that prevents the nail fungus from reoccurring.

Athlete’s Foot is a fungal infection. It is caused when feet stay moist and warm, over a period of time. The symptoms of Athlete Foot are itching and burning and in some cases there are cracks, pain and even bleeding. The moisture and warmth gives way to the formation of a fungus which thrive in such conditions. This fungus first infects the surface of the skin, and if nothing is done to treat the problem can affect the layers underneath causing a potential secondary bacterial infection in the area.
It is not that easy to prevent Athlete Foot as it happens when you spend long amounts of time in moist areas or sweaty conditions. This usually happens in shower rooms, changing rooms or pool locker rooms where bare feet can come in contact with this fungus.
A good foot hygiene regime can really help you prevent the infection. Changing your socks everyday and keeping your feet clean will prevent the accumulation of fungus. A special disinfectant foot powder could also help you prevent this infection.
It would also help to avoid using synthetic footwear which can make your feet sweat, not allowing them any space to breathe. Wearing some sort of sandals in infection prone areas like shower rooms will also help you avoid Athlete’s Foot.
