Dealing with Athlete’s foot condition

September 22, 2008

Athlete’s foot is a very common foot disease and can be caused by several different fungi. It is also known as Tinea Pedis. It usually manifests between toes but in more serious cases can also be found on the sides and bottom of the foot.

The main symptoms of athlete’s foot are scaling, flaking and itching of the skin around the infected area. If not treated in time, this infection can also spread to various areas of the body such as the armpit, knees, elbows and the groin. Athlete’s foot can also be transmitted to another person in areas where feet are often exposed such as locker rooms, bath houses and common showers.

Taking a few precautions such as maintaining proper foot hygiene can easily prevent athlete’s foot. Wearing clean footwear, not sharing footwear, drying feet properly after a shower and replacing old and dirty footwear are just some of the ways this disease can be prevented.
