Do not let foot diseases spread
February 17, 2009
Fungal infections can affect and infect anyone. Foot fungal infections are caused due to an accumulation of dampness and moisture either between the toes or on the toe nails. While the areas between the toes become red and sore, the toe nails become soft, brittle and weak. Moreover, the feet look unpleasant and unhygienic.
The best way to deal with foot fungal infections is to adopt good hygiene. Avoiding the sharing of towels, avoiding exchange of clothing (socks), regular cleaning, applying powder and drying are some of the habits which can keep the fungal infections at bay. Fungal infections can be contracted easily at public places like gymnasiums and swimming pools.
Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection that is caused by a parasite that dwells in dampness and leaves the foot infected. Dermatophyte is the fungus that primarily leads to athlete’s foot. Several dermatophytes come together and cause the infection. While the infection initiates in the regions between the toes, eventually the entire foot gets infected.
In order to prevent fungal infections from spreading, one should take necessary precautions. From medical appointments to prescribed drugs, everything can help in reducing the infection. Moreover, the healing process is long and extensive, which is why the infected patient needs to maintain determination. Fungal infections can get quite painful at times and a simple activity like walking can become difficult. However, if one maintains good hygiene and incorporates preventive measures, infections can be easily avoided.
