Fungal infections and their causes
November 13, 2008
Almost every part our body, from the head to toe, is prone to fungal infection. Fungi are present everywhere from the external environment to our skin. Typical fungi act as both our enemy and friend. It does so for its survival. Fungal infections are very common and generally grow around the nail, foot, toe etc. Athlete’s foot is a well known example of this. Here the fungus grows in between the toes due to accumulated moisture and sweat. The fungus grows rapidly in such an environment hence it should be cured in the initial stages itself.
Fungal infections can become very severe at times. Since the fungus spreads vastly the area of infection is increased thereby making it painful. One of the early symptoms of fungal infection is rigorous itching causing the infection to spread further. The callous itching makes the infected skin even more sore and red. The fungi that infects the nail leaves it discoloured, thick and very coarse. The nail growth is deformed and hardened.
Sometimes even a simple rash can lead to fungal infection. Ringworm is a familiar rash caused by fungal infection. it is advisable to make sure even tiny rashes caused due to bruise, nappy or even chemicals are given due attention. Fungus are forever multiplying which may lead to various infections hence proper care of skin is a good idea to stay away from them.
