Prevent athlete’s foot from affecting your feet

July 9, 2009

We have to be very careful with our feet as there are many infections that can cause considerable damage to them. Being in such close proximity to the ground, your feet come in contact with a lot of dirt and germs during the day. So great care must be taken to prevent catching persistent foot diseases that can last for a long time.

Athlete’s foot:
There are many types of fungal infections that can affect your feet. But out of these, the fungal infection known as athlete’s foot is one of the most common. This particular condition can be the most persistent too. Athlete’s foot is caused by a fungus that results in blisters, inflammation and itching. The foot is an ideal place for fungal infections to breed as it offers humid and dark conditions. These infections are found mostly in dark, warm and damp places such as swimming pools, public showers and locker rooms. This is the reason why so many athletes suffer from it.

Treatments and prevention measures:
There are a lot of treatments for such fungal infections such as athlete’s foot treatment, fungal nail treatment, chilblains treatment or antifungal treatment.

But they say prevention is better than cure and that is why it is better to avoid catching such infections in the first place. The best way to do this is by keeping your feet dry by using foot powders before putting on your socks. Wash your feet regularly with soap and wear shoes that allow your feet to breathe.
