February 10, 2009

One of the best known and most painful foot diseases that a large number of people suffer from is chilblains. This foot disease is caused due to the congestion of capillaries in the skin’s lower layers. Chilblains usually set in because of poor blood circulation, especially to the peripheries. It can cause the skin to become painful, tender, very itchy and red and can worsen with tight shoes, a sedentary occupation, cold weather and a poor diet.

Although chilblains are a common foot disease, it can also be sometimes found on the fingers and ears. The problem may be rare but it is advisable to attend to it as soon as possible. Here are a few chilblain treatments that if followed should solve the painful problem.

Various chilblain treatments

• An invaluable chilblain treatment lies in herbal medicines. There are oils that can help reduce the itchiness and redness of the skin. This treatment provides immense relief because it increases peripheral blood flow. Constantly using the oil can improve the condition of blood vessel walls in the long run and increase circulation as well.

• Another very effective chilblains treatment is keeping the affected areas covered during cold weather and exercising too.

• Eating particular types of food like green vegetables, almonds, oats, figs, parsley, sesame seeds and millet is also a very effective chilblain treatment.

• Discontinuing smoking can also help cure chilblains a great deal.
